FAQs

At Natural Hair Transplant Austin, we want to ensure you have the information necessary to make an informed decision regarding your health. We have compiled some of the most frequently asked questions from our patients here, allowing you to save time while providing you with the information you require.

Don’t see your question here? Feel free to get in touch with us for more information regarding any aspect of natural head hair transplants, our FUE procedure, our medical team, or anything else you might have questions regarding.

Q: How long do natural head hair transplants take?

A: Our FUE procedure is able to handle thousands of transplanted follicles at a time, reducing the time required for your treatment. However, the exact duration you can expect will depend on your personal hair loss and other factors. We generally tell patients to expect the procedure to take most of a day. However, we can provide a more accurate answer during your in-person consultation.

Q: Will my hair look natural after the procedure?

A: Yes, your hair will look completely natural. That’s because we will transplant your own natural hair follicles to thinning or bald areas. Once your hair regrows, it will look just as natural as your hair originally did. However, understand that we can only vouch for the results we achieve using our state-of-the-art system. Treatment methods used at other clinics can yield very different results.

Q: Is there any pain involved with the hair transplantation process?

A: We provide you with local anesthesia to prevent any discomfort during the procedure. After the procedure is done and the anesthesia begins to wear off, you may experience some swelling and tenderness. We can provide anti-inflammatory medication to reduce swelling and pain. Most patients are surprised at just how little discomfort is involved in our procedure.

Q: I have heard that you can only transplant a small number of follicles at one time. Will I need a second treatment?

A: In the past, this was true – manual follicle harvesting and transplantation were slow. However, our advanced FUE unit is able to handle thousands of follicles at a time. Most of our patients require only a single treatment.

Q: Will there be permanent scarring to my head?

A: Removing hair follicles does leave tiny scars behind, but these are covered by your natural hair and are invisible. The FUE technique does not create linear scarring the way older hair transplantation methods did.

Q: How long will I need to wait for my new hair to begin growing in?

A: It is important to work with our team before the procedure to understand the timeline for results that you might see. Transplanted follicles require time to heal and adjust to their new position on your scalp before they begin producing hair again. Most of our patients see new growth within a couple of months, with the majority experiencing 60% hair growth within six to nine months of the procedure.

Q: How long should I wait before I begin showering after the procedure?

A: We recommend that you wait at least four days before you expose your scalp to water in the shower. You may shower before this, as long as you do not get your scalp wet.

Q: Will my new hair be permanent?

A: Yes, your new hair will be permanent. We harvest follicles from the back of the head due to the genetic resistance of these follicles to balding, meaning you will regain a full head of natural hair, permanently.

Q: When can I swim after having natural head hair transplants?

A: We recommend waiting at least 30 days after the procedure before swimming in chlorine-treated water.
